her secret is patience

August 7, 2009

Phx is all about growing up. I say that because the Phoenix Civic Space has recently opened with a huge thing in the middle. Parts of it have been there forever — two huge blue round things hanging in the middle of the air across the street from the YMCA. They were there when I first moved to phx over a year ago.

Massachusetts artist Jane Echelman calls this piece Her Secret is Patience or Sky Bloom because it’s supposed to be a huge Saguaro flower pod. The colors are truly amazing when seen at night. I think it looks like a basket to catch the stars — maybe all my hopes and dreams in phx. Because let me tell you, I wouldn’t know if the thing catches sun rays very well. It’s just plain too hot to be outside.

newly found: phx perk: a young city
Compared to cities on the east coast, phx is a young and still finding itself. What’s so great about that? Well, it’s more open to trying new and modern things!

It’s the thing!

The piece is part of the Phoenix Civic Space — grass, lights and fountains.

Do you know who else is patience? Take a look at this:
