{wickenburg} iconic vaquero
July 7, 2012
Wickenburg has really taken its status as an iconic Western town to heart. In October of 2008, the DeVore Foundation dedicated The Wickenburg Streetscape Sculptures consisting of a series of bronze sculptures depicting both iconic Wickenburg people and animals. Starting today and for the next couple of days, we’ll take a look at the iconic hotelier, felon, dancers, vaquero, miner, teacher, and creepy crawlies.
Day 4 in our tour of iconic Wickenburg is the vaquero who plays a guitar to serenade downtown visitors. This would have been a typical event in the late 1800′s and the early 1900′s. In fact, many of the original cowboys in the West were Hispanics that settled in the area to farm. Some Hispanic families in the area have 7 generations of history in Wickenburg!
