why is it fall in january?

January 25, 2014

It’s crazy to think that here in the desert, you can walk out of your home smack in the middle of winter (right now in January) and instead of being greeting by snow and ice storms, there are colorful leaves hanging precariously from thin tree branches. It’s crazy to think that even though Phoenix and Boston are located in the same country that the weather is so completely different. While the East Coast is being dumped on (again) with a huge snow storm that has left thousands and residents without power, it’s a balmy mid-70° here and by the middle of next week we will have reached 80°. There is something clearly wrong with a place in the Northern Hemisphere that is 80° in January! This is a phenomenon that is clearly beyond this New Englander’s ability to understand.
