{portland} powell’s many books

August 17, 2015

There’s more than just one unique store in Portland! While MadeHere PDX is quite the nice place to visit, so is Powell’s City of Books. Powell’s actually reminds me of Strand Books in NYC, which is another huge bookstore that boasts selling 18 miles in books.

Powell’s was absolutely huge! There were floors and floors of this place and so many color-coded rooms that we couldn’t even remember where to were not to mention figure out the layout of this place. One of the well-known aspects of this place is its stone column of books that greets you at the front door. Its Espresso Book Machine is also another unique feature because it allows individuals to self-publish books, which is actually more common than I had originally realized. The aspect I most appreciated though is that while Powell’s could be just another huge bookstore, which is actually kind of rare these days, it truly celebrates the fact that its located in Portland. Just walking through the aisles and aisles of books you can see how this place is proud of its hometown!

A challenge: try to walk out of Powell’s with only one book.
