[room 113a] back-to-school bbq

August 20, 2015

It’s the first week of school. It’s the worst week of school. I absolutely hate the first week of school. Always. There are many reasons why. You never know what’s going to happen. Chairs are most likely to be thrown … by both students and teachers (just kidding on the teacher part). There’s so far to go in terms of building relationships (and compliance) it seems daunting. The good thing is that this first week of school is almost over.

Before it all began though, we had our Back to School BBQ, which was amazingly well attended especially considering I don’t teach at a huge school. With 10 grades on one campus (PreK-8), there are only 400-some students. Of course none of my students showed up, but I’m OK with that. In fact, I suspected that none of my students would show up. One, their parents have to work. Two, students in a separate day class (SDC, otherwise known as self-contained) don’t often show up to whole school events until they become very familiar with the teacher. Since school has just started, nobody is yet to be very familiar with me! Anyhow, the BBQ was a fun time!

Picture stolen from the school website. Notice I am actually in this picture!
