{taipei} the stinkiest tofu

September 19, 2015

One of my absolute favorite foods in the entire world is stinky tofu. Those who are not used to the smell think that the stink of the fermented tofu reminds them of garbage, but I think it’s aroma is just great. I just love walking along the street and getting a whiff of that fermented stink.

Recently, my sister and I discovered a stinky tofu place that’s just so delicious! It’s located close to Taipei Main Station and across the street from one of its many underground entrances. I think the stinky tofu here was so great because no only was the tofu quite stinky (I feel like more recently some places have cut down on the stink), they were fried to a perfect crisp, the inside of each tofu triangle was perfectly soft, and the sauce was spicy, garlicy, and salty all at the same time. And, oh yea, the pickled vegetables it came with were the perfect balance of sweet and sour. Talk about delicious!
