[room 113a] it’s dance time

October 22, 2015

At my school, we’ve been preparing for our big Latino Heritage Month Celebration at the end of the room. In the mean time, each of the classes has been able to participate in some arts workshops to get them prepared. This has been frustrating for me because originally, the organizer didn’t want my class to have its own workshop! They just wanted my students to cram in with another class. I felt this was unfair and didn’t fit my students needs at the time, which are significant, so I fought for my own workshop. I’ll be honest, this met quite a bit of push back from the coordinator who clearly does not understand special education, but eventually we were granted one workshop (even though everyone else got two).

In the end, it all worked out okay, and I’m glad the woman leading the workshop was much more open to my students’ needs than the coordinator. Just take a look at them learning to dance!
