{sf} mela’s curries

February 15, 2016

I’ve been on a kick for Indian food. Recently, during a cold adventure Downtown, I was starving so a friend of mine and I decided to look for some good eats in the area. We found Mela Tandoori Kitchen, which services Indian and Pakistani cuisine. We didn’t really know what to expect when we were walking over to the restaurant only that it was close and much warmer than outside. When we arrived, we saw that the place was packed so either the place was going to be delicious or everyone was just as hungry and cold as we were.

The first floor of the restaurant is for typical diners. The second floor is for those interested in hookah. Even though we weren’t smoking any hookah, we agreed to sit on the second floor (next to the balcony) so that we could get seated right away. It turned out to be a great decision because there was only one group smoking anyway and the smell wasn’t that strong. Besides, we got a fun view of everyone eating and the kitchen down below. The only not great thing was that the place was so dimly lit that it was quite difficult to read the long list of curries Mela has to offer. Eventually we decided on two: a mushroom with cheese and an eggplant. I don’t know their Indian names, but both were delicious as we chowed down with rice and naan.
