[good reads] abuela

goodreads-abuelaRecently, I got to hear an author read his own book. I feel like that’s quite an unique opportunity because, really, how often does that happen to you in a life time? OK, I guess if you’re really into local authors it might happen regularly especially if you go to book signings and stuff. Anyway, via a Skype call, author Arthur Dorros read the book, Abuela, to my class (and me, of course!).

I feel like Abuela might actually be his most famous book. He shared with the class (and me!) how this book reminded him of his grandmothers who were so important to him in his life. In the book, a young girl is riding the bus with her grandmother. She then imagines that they are flying over New York City (Manhattan) with her grandmother. Imagine all the wonderful things you can see if you were to fly over Manhattan! And what a beautiful book with all the illustrations!
