{philadelphia} magic gardens

November 23, 2016

The best part about friends visiting from out of town is the chance to visit touristy sites that I might not normally take the time out to see. One of these places is Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens (PMG)!

The work of a single artist, Isaiah Zagar, PMG spans half a block on South Street, and is a mosiacked masterpiece using nontraditional materials and space. The nonprofit arts center has a mission to “[inspire] creativity and community engagement by educating the public about folk, mosaic, and visionary art”.

There are two indoor galleries and one outdoor immersive space. Feel free to read more about the exhibit here: https://www.phillymagicgardens.org/.

A taste of the mosaic art in the daylight, from when I walked by a couple months ago.

The beautiful scene from inside the immersive multi-storied outdoor exhibit when we visited in the evening last week!

I will admit I am not a big art connoisseur, but the PMG is definitely worth at least one visit when in town, if only to appreciate its unconventionality and role in revitalizing the surrounding neighborhood!

Until next time,
