{berlin} german life, the wall

December 3, 2016

You might be wondering why I haven’t mentioned the Berlin Wall yet during these past couple of posts about my short time in the city even though I seemed like I had organized the post by day. I decided that since the Berlin Wall is such an experience in it of itself that I would devote an entire post only to the Wall itself. During our stay in Berlin, we decided to spend a fair amount of time at the Wall and walk along as much of it as we could. I was very impressed by how well-preserved some of the areas were, but really disappointed by how messed up other parts were. The nicer parts of the wall had been painted by artists who had come back multiple times. For some reason these areas also had metal fencing around them. The other areas that had been trashed were just left that way and that was incredibly sad to see! Even still, the message was just as strong.
