[room 209m] week twenty one mlk jr
January 12, 2017
It’s almost Martin Luther King Jr. Day (next Monday) and since we’re off on that day, I thought it would be best to get a jump start on the holiday and learn about it this week. The timing of all this is also extra amazing because we just started our unit on important African Americans (in preparation for our African American Heritage Celebration at the end of February). I plan on introducing my students to six important African American minds, the first of which is Martin Luther King Jr. We’ll be studying each individual for a week. This is also tied into our comprehension goals of identifying an informational text’s main idea and details. The students will also be working on identifying why each individual is important and drawing a portrait of each of the six individuals. Here’s a peek at what we did for the part of our Martin Luther King Jr. mini unit this week.
