[room 209m] week twenty five carver
February 9, 2017
First we learned about Martin Luther King Jr., second we learned about Rosa Parks, then we learned about Ruby Bridges, and next we learned about George Washington Carver. George Washington Carver is the fourth important African American individual that my class is learning about in preparation for our African American Heritage Celebration at the end of this month. The students were able to brainstorm many details they learned about this important man.
Details we identified to fit under the main idea: George Washington Carver
More importantly, the students were able to identify why George Washington Carver was an important person. This is an important skill for them because it’s not just repeated details that they remember, but discerning whether or not that detail is of any importance. Here are a few examples of what a few students wrote.
George Washington Carver is an important person because he helped the farms. He planted sweet potatoes.
