[room 209m] week twenty six mae jemison

First there was Martin Luther King Jr., second there was Rosa Parks, then then there was Ruby Bridges, next there was George Washington Carver, and finally there was Mae Jemison. Mae Jemison was the fifth and second to last important African American that we learned about in my class. The students thought she was so awesome because she literally went up into space. I’m not so sure how they imagine that in their little brains, but they were excited about it nonetheless. Here’s one first grader’s thoughts about Mae Jemison:

What is the main idea? The main idea is Mae Jemison.
Give a detail about the main idea. She went to space. She got in a rocket. She is a doctor.

Why is Mae Jemison an important person? Mae Jemison is an important person because she went to space.
