{maui} road to hana, part 2

July 25, 2017

One of the most epic things to do on Maui is drive The Road to Hana. It’s a hairpin winding and strikingly breathtaking way to see the entire northern and eastern shores of the island. I’m thankful that it was all paved and it was essentially all two lanes so if you went slow, it wasn’t too bad. Read part 1 here. Here’s a look at part 2 of my mom’s and my Road to Hana drive.

As we continued slowly along The Road to Hana, my mom and I got a rare chance to see a waterfall from above as if the water plunged down from right beneath our feet. Makapipi Falls is this neat waterfall’s name. Just beyond that, we entered Wai’anapanapa State Park and spent some time here exploring the lava caves, walking along the Pi’ilani Trail for a bit before turning around since it’s actually a 3-mile hike that we didn’t have time for, and then enjoying the black pebble beaches here. After that we, drove straight into the small town of Hana and had a chance to take a short hike over to Kaihalulu (Red Sands) Beach. What an experience it was to get to Hana … breathtaking in more ways than one!
