{sf} wraps @ souvla

April 18, 2017

There’s a new Greek wraps and salads place that opened up on Divisadero a couple of months ago that I’ve been waiting and waiting to try. Souvla doesn’t offer that many things, but what they do offer is just so delicious! They have wraps and salads that you can order with either pork, chicken, lamb, or veg (sweet potato). Beyond that, they offer a few sides, some greek frozen yogurt, and wine, but that’s pretty much it. I love places with few options. So far I’ve only had a chance to try the veg option, but I’m super excited to go back and see what the lamb is all about!

Waiting for some Greek food!

For the holidays, SSG Fong and I made our way over to California to visit my parents. On the way (or actually not really on the way) we stopped in Torrance to pick up my sister who happened to be there for an interview. Since we were all hungry, we decided to grab a quick lunch before heading south to San Diego. Chicken Maisón had 4.5 stars on Yelp with over 200 reviews so we figured that there must be something that this place is doing right.

Since there were three of us, we each tried something very different. SSG Fong got the gyro plate that came with plenty of thickly cut lamb meat, pita bread, and hummus. I got the Chicken Maison salad with the rice tossed into the salad. I especially loved the fried “croutons”. My sister tried the falafel wrap, which was filled with very flavorful falafels. Overall, it was quite the satisfactory meal.

{phx} my big, fat calzone

February 16, 2010

My Big Fat Greek wedding is one pretty awesome movie. My Big Fat Greek Restaurant is one pretty awesome restaurant, too. It’s a chain though, at least in the Valley … not sure about outside this area. My google searches seemed to be a little off today. But I do know there’s one very close to where I live downtown.

Anyways, we visited on a recent Sunday night with very empty stomachs and left full and happy. We had the tzatziki (greek yogurt stuff with garlic) served with pita and one big, fat calzone that was more than plenty for one small eater plus one big eater.

What a pretty color blue and menu picture!

I love pretty murals on restaurant walls.

We were actually trying to eat at Boston Market, but the one we were headed for was closed! So some people looked around and saw a gyro place in the same plaza near Northern and 19th Ave. We figured we’d give it a try. I think everyone I went with thought the place was average. Everything was good, but not great. Nothing was amazing or disgusting.

The staff was really nice. I ordered the hummus and they even gave me extra pita bread. It was probably so I could share with the rest of the people I was sitting with. But nope! I didn’t share. Oh well …
